Choosing a Kitchen Door Design

Read Time:3 Minute, 15 Second

Your kitchen door design choice sets the scene for the entire room. From deep frames to simple slabs, there is sure to be a style perfect for every kitchen space.

Slab style doors feature flat panels without frames for a modern, clean aesthetic while glass front doors bring natural light into your kitchen space.

Raised Panel Doors

Raised panel cabinet doors boast a classic design, featuring a raised center panel encased by a frame. Perfect for traditional kitchen styles and easily customizable by combining with other door types for an individualized appearance, raised panel doors make an elegant statement in any kitchen or pantry.

These kitchen doors are an increasingly popular choice among homeowners who wish to add sophistication and elegance to their home. Their intricate details add depth and texture, adding dimension and texture. Plus, these pieces can be stained or painted to fit into any color scheme or design aesthetic!

Raised panel doors may be harder to keep clean due to dirt getting trapped between their recessed edges and raised center panels, and can become more costly than their flat panel alternatives. Flat panel doors tend to be simpler and easier to keep clean; however they may become less visually appealing with certain stain colors or may warp more easily due to higher levels of heat or humidity.

Overlays

Cabinet doors may seem like minor details when designing a kitchen, but they play an integral part in both its appearance and functionality. Varying their style or adding trim details can enhance their look to provide your clients with custom designs that match their decor themes perfectly.

Louvered panels are an increasingly popular cabinet door choice, featuring slanted horizontal strips forming louvers along the inside edge of door frames. This subtle yet versatile cabinet door design can blend easily with traditional, transitional, or contemporary decor styles.

Glass-front kitchen doors offer another fantastic solution, allowing light into the room while maintaining privacy and being easy to keep clean – an essential feature in spaces prone to spills and messes!

Glass Framed Doors

Framed doors tend to be lighter and provide a more traditional aesthetic, but require additional work during installation as their clips must be perfectly level while caulk is applied around their edges to prevent water damage.

Aluminum frames are durable and offer a sleek appearance, but may rust over time and require more frequent maintenance.

Glass door frames may be constructed of various materials. Polystyrene (talc-filled) was once popular for older doors but is prone to cracking and discoloring over time in direct sunlight, while uPVC can last longer but still crack, peel, or warp with use.

When replacing existing insulated glass, it’s important to carefully consider its overall thickness before selecting a frame suitable for it. Standard frames for clear or etched glass typically range between 1/2″ (standard for standard applications such as clear/etched) to full 1″, with hinges having interlocking tenons held together by dowel screws for greater security.

Sliding Barn Doors

Barn doors may often be associated with farmhouse-esque or rustic design styles, but their versatility extends further than this. You’ll even find contemporary styles featuring straight architectural lines, raw materials and monochromatic colors.

Sliding barn doors save space compared to traditional swinging doors by not requiring door frame space either side of an opening. However, for maximum effectiveness of sliding barn door movement you will require wall space the width of a single door on either side. Be mindful to check for light switches, outlets, windows or vents which could obstruct it before sliding it open!

Barn doors make it simple and stylish to add natural light while creating an eye-catching decorative accent in any room. Their versatile nature enables an open floorplan or providing privacy based on style, material and hardware selections that suit your home perfectly – providing aesthetics, function and personality all in one package!
